YAZ Causes Serious Side Effects

If you have taken the oral contraceptive Yaz or Yasmin and experienced side effects you may be entitled to compensation. These drugs have been found to have dangerous side effects and while they are marketed under different names they are the same drug.

According to an article on injuryboard.com, the birth control pill’s key chemical ingredient, Drospirenone, is what is creating the problem. The article says no other birth control bill contains Drospirenone, and the combination of chemicals in Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to potentially deadly side effects.

Some of those side effects are:
-Heart attack
-Stroke
-Pulmonary Embolism
-Deep Vein Thrombosis

5 Most Dangerous Intersections in Las Vegas

As you may have seen on our new commercial the five most dangerous intersections in Las Vegas were recently named. This data was compiled over a six month period (September 2011 to March 2012) from Metro police records and examined traffic collisions with injuries at these specific intersections.

1. Lamb Boulevard and Charleston Boulevard
2. Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue
3. Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road
4. Sahara Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard
5. Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane

While it is always recommended that you drive defensively, Metro is suggesting that you pay extra attention when driving near any of these identified intersections. The amount of accidents in the Valley seems to spike each summer but I am hopeful that recently enacted laws to eliminate distracted driving will go a long way towards reducing these numbers. Spring Break Safety Reminder

With Spring Break in full swing around the Valley it is a good time to remind everyone to be safe on the roads. The weather has been cool and mild leading to more pedestrians out on the streets at all times of day. With the rash of recent accidents between pedestrians and motorists there has never been a better time to share these Spring Break driving tips provided by AAA.

• Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods
• Take extra time to look for pedestrians at intersections, on medians and on curbs
• Enter and exit any alley, driveway, parking space etc. slowly and carefully
• Watch for children in and around the street especially during daytime hours
• Remember that pedestrians (especially children) may move in unpredictable ways
• Reduce any distractions in your vehicle so you can pay attention to the road and surroundings

New Bus System Aims to Make Streets Safer

After seemingly endless reports of accidents involving pedestrians and motor vehicles I was happy to read about a new system recently unveiled by the The Clark County School District. The district is in the middle of rolling out a sophisticated software system to manage the 36,000 stops its 1,500 school buses make daily. Officials are optimistic that the system could better manage drivers, create more efficient routes, save money and most importantly save lives. This fall, district officials plan to have all standard bus routes avoid taking unnecessary trips into residential neighborhoods, keeping them on main thoroughfares instead.

Preventing buses from going into private neighborhoods is just one benefit of the new $875,000 system, called Compass, by U.S. Computing, Inc. Officials say the new system will allow them to integrate traffic information, avoid accident-prone intersections and monitor whether drivers are adhering to their assigned routes. I see this as a win-win for the people of Las Vegas as the schools will be able to divert some of the money saved to other areas and the streets will be safer for our children and families. In a city full of great shows, it is difficult to make a decision on which to choose. This week on The Ed Bernstein Show, I had the pleasure to interview casts from very different shows but both very entertaining. My first guests are The Gazillionaire, Penny and Melody from the critically acclaimed acro-cabarat variety show “Absinthe”. “Absinthe” is performed in the round in intimate proximity of the world-class artists performing amazing feats of strength, balance, danger and unfathomable flexibility. The New York Times hails, “Imagine Cirque du Soleil as channeled through ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show.’”

Also joining me on the show are Graham Fenton and Deven May of “Jersey Boys”. This smash hit show takes you behind the unforgettably classic music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. The show chronicles their stories from their blue collar early years to becoming one of the greatest successes in pop music history. “Jersey Boys”, the Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 2006, as Clive Barnes in the New York Post said, “It’s just too good to be true”.

This week on The Ed Bernstein show I welcome “America’s Got Talent” illusionist Michael Turco. Michael is headlining 6 days per week (dark Tuesdays) in “Magic and Mayhem” at Planet Hollywood in the Saxe Theater. This much buzzed about show is choreographed by “Dancing With The Stars” choreographer Lacey Schwimmer and on the show Michael performs a card trick that I am still trying to figure out!

Also joining me on the show is 25 year comedy veteran Michael Wheels Parise. Wheels has been the opening act for Andrew Dice Clay for over 20 years and costarred with Dice in a VH-1 Reality Show called “Dice Undisputed” in 2008. After spending 20 years in Hollywood California at the World Famous Comedy Store as a house favorite, he decided to make Las Vegas his new home with his family. His comedy show “Wheels Live” runs at the Rio Hotel and Casino 6 nights a week Monday thru Saturday at 8:30pm.

The show airs this Sunday at 4:00pm on KSNV/NBC.

Casual Friday with a Cause

EMB Employees enjoy wearing jeans every Friday. What to some looks like a casual day is really their way of participating in Casual Friday with a Cause. Employees donate money each week to wear jeans to work, and Ed matches that contribution at the end of the year. Recently a check in the amount of $4,205.00 was presented to Principal Davis of Lunt Elementary School to be used to purchase books and other learning resources.

Additionally, Bernstein & Associates’ employees donate their time to Lunt Elementary for such activities as Nevada Reading Week, Teacher Appreciation, putting together Holiday Baskets for families and sponsoring an art contest, the winner’s artwork is used as the firm’s Holiday card. In addition, the winner’s classroom gets a guest appearance on The Ed Bernstein Show.
Plans are already underway to volunteer at Science Night and Literacy Night and collection bins for books, totes and supplies are scattered throughout the office. So, the next time you have an opportunity to visit on a Friday, just know the gift of giving is alive & well at EMB!

Join me this week when I interview award winning illusionist Tommy Wind. At just 21 years of age, Tommy is a dynamic, hip, award winning illusionist who was named “Best Teen Magician of the Year” at the 2009 “World Magic Awards”. His new show IMPACT: An Explosion of Magic and Music opened at the Clarion Hotel in February of 2012. On the show Tommy talks about how he got his start in magic and performs sleight of hand tricks.

Also on the show are General Manager Michael LaPorte and Sushi Chef John Lee from Social House at Crystals in Aria. Social House offers exquisite Asian cuisine, unrivaled décor and exuberant vibe. 2 Juveniles Injured in Separate Pedestrian Accidents

After a few relatively quiet months we have another wave of accidents involving pedestrians and motor vehicles. In the past week alone I have read about half a dozen tragic accidents and as a father today’s breaking news really spoke to me. In separate incidents in less than 24 hours two juveniles were hit and injured (but expected to recover) by vehicles. Officer Laura Meltzer said a green pickup truck struck a juvenile just after 7:15 a.m. Thursday at Sahara Avenue east of the Desert Rose Golf Course. Meltzer added a black sedan hit a child about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night at Decatur Boulevard near the Sahara Pavilion South shopping center.

While it has not yet been determined if the children were using the crosswalk when they were hit I want to caution all drivers to pay extra attention when driving (especially anywhere near children). With the weather warming up and increased daylight hours there will be more people out on and about while we ramp up to the summer months. Take your time and keep your eyes peeled and let’s work to make Nevada accident free.
