Arizona Man Pleads Guilty in December Crash That Killed 5 Cyclists
An Arizona man has pled guilty in a crash that killed five bicyclists on a southern Nevada highway in December 2020.
Commercial truck driver Jordan Alexander Barson, 45, of Kingman, Arizona, pled guilty on April 20th and faces sentencing on June 9th.
Prosecutors argue that Barson had a high level of methamphetamine in his system when he crashed his truck into a group of cyclists riding on U.S. 95 on December 10th. The crash killed five cyclists and injured three other people.
Court documents show that the plea deal will reduce the number of charges that Barson faces. He initially faced 14 counts, including separate counts of DUI and reckless driving for each of the five bicyclists killed.
He pled guilty to two-counts of DUI resulting in death. Each count carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison.
