Impaired Driver causes three life-threatening injuries near Las Vegas
Two individuals were seriously injured in a collision Sunday night near downtown Las Vegas, according to police, who said the driver was intoxicated and driving at high speeds.
At 6:34 p.m., police were called to Sahara Avenue and Maroney Avenue, near South Maryland Parkway, for a two-vehicle collision. According to police, the driver of a 2015 Dodge Dart was driving east on Sahara when he attempted to make a left turn onto Maroney. Police said the vehicle then collided with a Scion heading westbound on Sahara "at a high rate of speed."
The driver and passenger of the Dodge Dart were taken to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition, while Leal, the driver of the Scion, was discovered to be under the influence of alcohol after sustaining moderate injuries.
Leal is currently facing two counts of DUI causing death or serious injury, as well as two counts of reckless driving resulting in death or injury.
For hours, the road between Maryland Parkway and Nevada Street was closed in both directions as police investigated. The road has since reopened.
