According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a driver was critically injured in a crash in the east Las Vegas Valley on Tuesday morning. The driver is suspected of driving under the influence. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the crash happened around 5:30 am on August 2nd, and occurred near Washington Avenue just west of Pecos Road. The police department also stated that a Subaru was fleeing the scene of an unrelated crash when it lost control and hit a stop sign before crashing into a fire hydrant and a park wall. The driver of the Subaru, identified as a 31-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries. According to LVMPD, the man showed signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for charges related to driving under the influence. LVMPD also confirmed that there was one additional occupant in the vehicle, but the passenger only suffered moderate injuries and was not taken to a hospital. Washington was closed in both directions between Mojave Road and Pecos while LVMPD investigated the crash, but has since been reopened. “Car accidents are on the rise in the Las Vegas area.
