Las Vegas Impaired Driver Not Wearing Seatbelt Involved in Fatal Crash
A man driving impaired without a seatbelt died Wednesday night in a crash, said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
The crash happened April 8 around 8 p.m. on South Eastern Avenue south of East Sunrise Avenue. According to the police, a 2016 Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on Eastern and passed through the intersection at the same time that a 2001 Audi TT was crossing Eastern while traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Audi crossed the center median and entered the southbound lanes. As it did so, the Toyota struck the passenger side of the Audi, police said.
The 24-year-old driver of the Audi didn’t have his seatbelt on and appeared impaired. He was transported to the hospital but died later.
The LVMPD indicated that speeding by the Audi appeared to be a factor in the crash.
The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and was not impaired.
The Audi driver’s death marked the 26th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2020.
