One Dead After Rollover Crash on Boulder Highway
A motorist has been killed in a collision on Boulder Highway near Sahara Avenue early Wednesday morning. Police stated the speed of the vehicle is likely to be a contributing factor.
Lieutenant David Gordon of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the collision occurred just after 6:00 a.m. on February 2 in the 3600 block of Boulder Highway. According to authorities, the driver died in a single-vehicle rollover accident when his Ford four-door car flipped over.
The Clark County Coroner's Office later announced that Paul John Ortega, 38, of Las Vegas was the driver of the Ford sedan. His death was deemed an accident.
According to authorities, the Ford was going at a high rate of speed when it struck a concrete median and was subsequently redirected across all three southbound lanes and into a concrete wall. Police said the Ford was found on its roof in the bus lane adjacent to the outer roadway.
Police also confirmed that the passenger of the vehicle was taken to Sunrise Hospital with "serious" injuries.
The wreck resulted in the closure of Southbound Boulder Highway between I-515 for several hours while the incident was still being investigated.
